Special Events & Competitions

Our organisation is well known for its innovative form of fundraising through the creation and hosting of events. We conduct over 30 events throughout the year, of which two, namely the Community Chest Carnival at Maynardville, Wynberg and the Twilight Team Run feature prominently on the City of Cape Town calendar.

The Community Chest Carnival began as a Theatrical Garden Party in 1951 and has grown to become the biggest Public Relations event on our events calendar. 9000 volunteers donate their time, skills and expertise in order to create a carnival that brings the community together for four fun filled evenings.

The Community Chest Twilight Team Run started in 1982. 20 000 participants crawl, walk or run in teams of six, some dressed in the wackiest costumes, through the streets of the Mother City followed by a party that rocks the city.

Our special events provide a channel of visibility for our organisation and that of our event partners in the eye of the public. We enjoy longstanding partnerships with the likes of Coca Cola, Lewis Stores, GHFM, Stuttaford Van Lines, Nando’s Chickenland, the City of Cape Town and many more

In addition to these major events, we also take smaller events to the community. Events such as our Annual Community Chest Market and our Golf Day give the local communities an opportunity to take part in giving back to the community.
