Community Chest Mandela Month Week 1 Soup Kitchen
This July, Community Chest of the Western Cape will honour Mandela Month by hosting a weekly soup kitchen every Friday throughout the month, providing hot meals to vulnerable community members, people experiencing homelessness and anyone in need.
The initiative will take place on 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 July 2026 outside the Community Chest offices, 82 Bree Street, Cape Town, with meals provided for approximately 300 people each week.
Community Chest is grateful to its partners for making this initiative possible:
- Pick n Pay will provide freshly prepared soup.
- Blue Ribbon will donate bread treats.
- Double "O" will provide cold drinks.
Residents from The Haven Night Shelter Head Office, as well as individuals in the Bree Street precinct and surrounding areas, will be invited to participate.
This initiative reflects the spirit of Mandela Month by encouraging compassion and community support beyond a single day of service.
As Nelson Mandela said "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others."
Community Chest CEO, “We would like to take this opportunity to thank our donors, partners and volunteers for helping make a meaningful difference and encourage everyone to support the initiatives around Mandela Day”
