Grant Making
Since our founding, Community Chest of the Western Cape has been dedicated to alleviating poverty through strategic grant-making that empowers local non-profit organisations. Our funding supports both operational and programmatic needs, ensuring long-term sustainability and measurable impact. With the support of generous donors, we assist organisations addressing critical social challenges and respond to urgent community needs, including education, health, income generation, and disaster relief.

Who Can Apply:
South African registered NPOs, NPCs, Trusts and Educational Institutions that align with the standards outlined in the NPO Code, are eligible to apply for a Community Chest grant.
Applicants must operate within our key focus areas: Health, Education, Income Generation, and Community Development by demonstrating a commitment to sustainable impact and social development.
How to Apply
- The Community Chest issues two calls for proposals per financial year (1 April – 31 March).
- Organisations that have received the Request for Proposal (RFP) email may submit their application for funding, ensuring all requirements outlined in the application form are met.
- Each applicant may submit only one application per funding cycle.
- Once received, applications undergo a thorough review by the internal grant-making team and Committee.
- Funding proposals considered: Operational and Programmatic Funding.
Terms & Conditions
- The Community Chest issues two calls for proposals per financial year (1 April – 31 March).
- Applications are only open to South African-registered entities (NPOs, NPCs, Trusts and Educational Institutions).
- Applicant organisations must be compliant at the time of application.
- Funding is subject to the availability of funds.
- The Community Chest Grant-making Committee reserves the right to decline or cancel funding applications at its discretion.
